Lessons from the Inversion Table

A nasty 24 hour stomach bug is going through my house. I was the latest to be hit. Today I felt much better than the night before but was sore and achy. We have an inversion table and after I got up I thought maybe a few minutes of inverted stretching would help get out some of the kinks. So I set about getting it all set for my height put my feet in the padded foot holder and began pushing backward.

Now there is a strap under the table that is connected to a cross beam that keeps the table from being totally inverted. Apparently, I did not check this important thing closely enough. Where I expected to stop, gravity took over and left me swinging like a church bell.

What to do.

Using my wily wits and ninja skill I was able to free myself from my surprise upside-down prison. I am glad I was alone. I don’t think my wife or my girls would have stopped laughing.

So what did I learn from this? What is the point of sharing this unfortunate story with you?

Honestly—I’ve got nothing…But from now on I am going to pay very close attention to that pesky strap if ever get on that thing again.

Perhaps you might see some lesson in this little mishap? If you do I’d love to hear it.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. From dad: Could be used to describe a tension between two great life principles like truth and grace. Perhaps the strap is grace. If you focus only on truth without grace you end up upside down..

    1. I like this one a lot. Truth and grace together are very helpful and life giving. Once you remove the tether of grace, you may still be on the “table of truth” but not in a helpful way. If the table is broken, even if you have the tether of grace in place, you won’t be helped either. Great insight!

  2. Hi Pastor Dan,
I cannot contribute to the learning but I too had that BUG and it was horrible. The funny thing about these short term illnesses is that they really do remind me of how wonderful it is to be heathy.
