For where your treasure is…

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21, NIV).

It is no secret that I enjoy a pipe or cigar. In fact, right now I am working at a cigar shop. Part of my new job includes being a co-host of a podcast that talks about cigars. As part of that project I have been spending time building a social media presence to build my rep as a cigar and pipe enthusiast. One of the ways I have been doing that is through an Instagram account posting pictures of cigars and pipes and some short reviews of what I have been smoking. While this has taken a fair amount of time, I have really enjoyed it–because (of course) I really enjoy a fine cigar or bowl of tobacco. Here are some of my favorite pics:

I don’t want my heart to be treasuring these things. I want the undisputed treasure of my heart to be Jesus. So I have been much more vigilant in keeping and even expanding my quiet time, reading Scripture, and prayer.  Hopefully posts like this one are proof that I am doing that. When I put more effort into picture like this than I do in my relationship with Master Jesus I am in trouble.

  1. I completely relate with this post. I am enjoying my current job and my responsibilities are increasing, but I was already struggling to make my relationship with God my highest priority. I am going to try to start making my lunch time a study and prayer time starting today. Thanks for the motivation and reality check.
