The time I look forward to most in the day is my morning time in the Scripture. Once my wife is off to work and my girls have all gone to school (or purgatory as they think of it), I get my morning coffee and listen to God speak. If I have been learning anything, it is that I need the grace and truth that is in His Book. Of course the Book itself does not have the grace I need. But it tells me about the Person who does (John 1:14), that He has promised it, procured it, and applies it (Romans 6:23). It tells me that there is nothing I need to do to earn it or be worthy of it (Romans 5:8), because this Person is willing and able to give it freely and liberally to anyone who comes to Him and asks for it (1 John 1:9). It tells me I am loved no matter what (John 17:23). That I am loved just as I am, and loved too much to leave me as I am… or where I am (2 Corinthians 3:18); that one day, I will be brought Home to be with Him as a treasured son (Luke 15:22-24). I don’t know about you, but I need that. I need to hear that on a daily basis.
