Listening and learning from Christians past and present about who God is, what He is doing, and how He wants to relate to us is a good and healthy thing. But while we should be open to the Spirit using others to teach us, we need the Spirit to reveal Himself, Jesus, and the Father to us. So while I personally find Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, Francois Fenelon, William Ames, Oswald Chambers, and A.W. Tozer good guides and spiritual fathers, I must not get so caught up and committed to what they think that I am not open to the Spirit when He says, “This is who I am.”
Learning To Be Full Of Grace And Truth. 
I do a lot of extra-biblical reading as part of what I read as Jesus’ command to “Watch!” While helpful and necessary, it’s always a good reminder to not lose focus on the “Why!”

Yup. We just need to be sue that are not letting our theology and our theological bent become the lens through with we interpret Scripture instead of the other way around.
