We Have the Father’s Ear

Then you will ask in my name. I’m not saying I will ask the Father on your behalf, for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God (John 16:26-27, NLT).

Jesus took away what was keeping us from being able to be in a relationship with the Father. Nothing stands in the way of that anymore. If you take Jesus as your Lord and believe that God the Father raised Him from the dead, your record is clean, you owe nothing, all the charges raised against you in the Divine Court have been satisfied by Jesus.

But He did more than just wipe the slate clean for us. Because of Jesus we have direct access to the Father. So much so that we actually have the Father’s ear. Jesus does not need to carry our prayers to the Father on our behalf. The Father not only accepts the fact that we are now not guilty, He loves us, and wants us to talk with Him, confide in Him, confess to Him, and bring him our concerns, requests, and questions.

Does Jesus intercede for us? Absolutely (Hebrews 7:25). Does the Holy Spirit intercede for us? Absolutely (Romans 8:26-27). Both the Son and the Spirit are always praying for us. That is an awesome privilege all by itself. But they are not the only ones with direct access to our heavenly Father. If you are in Christ, the Father is no less inclined to hear your prayers and speak with you than He is to Jesus Himself. A prayer from the least of Jesus’ children is given no less attention and care and importance than the Father would give to the intercession of Spirit or the Son. That is an awesome thought. He loves you that much.
