A very interesting quote from Tim Keller. What do you think?
God only allows Satan to accomplish the very opposite of what he wants to accomplish. He only gives Satan enough rope to hang himself…God hates evil. He’s against it. He didn’t create a world in which evil existed. But He permits it. Why? He permits Satan only to bring evil into Job’s life in such a way, in such an amount, that actually completely defeats Satan’s real intention. Satan is only allowed by God to actually defeat himself and achieve the very opposite of what he wanted.
…He permits evil and suffering to come into your life only to the degree that it defeats the actual intention of Satan for you. Only to the degree that it makes you a great person. Only to the degree that it actually defeats itself.

I think god doesn’t control our actions. He gave us a precious gift known as free will. To believe god directs our every movement contradicts free will. Once he set in motion free will he allowed for both the greatest of good and the greatest of evil.
Now to not believe god can take ANY evil man is capable of and not turn it for glory and good is equally as foolish in my book. God can transform any evil because he is greater than evil. Man can not turn evil to good, man can only do evil or good. Transformation is left to god, choice is left to man.
So the better question I think is “How will you use the gift of free will today?” and a follow up of “Will that choice glorify god or will it cause god to have to fix the evil you commit?”

We are not puppets, no. God could not hold us responsible for our actions if we were. But it is also true that God is sovereign. How these two realities work together is more than I know. But I don’t think the world makes sense unless they are both true. I have some stuff I thought I posted on this. Apparently I never did. Perhaps that will be the subject of a new series. I love your comment though, and asking yourself how you are going to use the gift of free will today and will that glorify God is a great question to ask. If we all did that, the world would have a lot more peace in it.
