Today my youngest turns 9 years old. She is a real sweetie. We have a little ritual we do when I drop her off at school.
We give the “I love you” sign,

Followed by the approving finger-point, thus emphasizing the “I love you,”

Then the thumbs up,

And then wave,

And end with blowing each other a kiss.

This is often repeated several times.
Another ritual we have is to attempt to prove who loves who more.
“I love you Rachel.”
I love you too daddy….but I love you more than you love me!”
“No way! That is not possible. I love you way more than you love me!”
“I love you a 1000 times more than you love me!” she replies.
“I love you 10,000 times more than you love me!”
This goes on way past infinity. But then she qualifies it saying, “But you should know daddy, that I do love God more than you. I mean, He is God so I have to love Him more.” I smile and relent.
Another thing Rachel is fond of telling me is “You are the best dad ever! Except for God, He is the real best dad ever. I hope that does not hurt your feelings…that you are not THE best dad, but after God, you are the best.” As it should be.
Rachel, you make daddy proud! Happy birthday!!!!
PS: I love you more than you love me! ;-P

That’s is really great! 🙂

This is the greatest, awesome post. You and you’re daughter are both just the cutest. My dad and I used to do the I love you sign when he dropped me off too…actually we still do 🙂

Love this Dan. Even we homeschoolers developed “rituals” for certain things. They became precious memories once our nest was empty (sniffle). I miss those days. Blessings & Happy final single-digit Birthday to Rachel!
