As you know I usually put up new posts every day. Yesterday I was playing “Mr. Mom” as we got a foot of fresh snow and school was cancelled. That kept me from posting yesterday. Last night one of my daughters who struggles with severe clinical depression, had a serious breakdown and attempted to cut herself with a pair of scissors saying she wanted to die. She did not end up physically harming herself, but she is being treated at the hospital. That has kept me from posting today.
My good friend Michelle, partly in response to hearing about our situation, put up this excellent post on cutting that she had been working on. This is a serious problem and very common among girls. Michelle is not a medical professional, but is a recovering “cutter” herself and volunteers at a clinic where she talks with people who are struggling with this. Her experience makes this a very informative read and good resource. I really hope you read it. It deserves your time.
I have come across this more than a few times as a pastor and have had to read up on it. Michelle offers a fine summary of this issue and offers excellent insights on what to do when you come across someone struggling with this. I thought it too important not to share.
I covet your prayers for Anna.
Grace,
Dan Ledwith
