What I Want to See in the Mirror

The Sovereign LORD has given me his words of wisdom,
so that I know how to comfort the weary.
Morning by morning he wakens me
and opens my understanding to his will (Isaiah 50:4, NLTse).

Soon after I entered pastoral ministry I came across this verse in one of my daily devotions. It quickly became a daily prayer for me. We need to be people who fit this description.

We need His wisdom. Our wisdom has gotten us into the messes we are in and see all around us.

We need eyes of mercy so that we can hear the cries of the weary and His grace so that we can comfort them in ways that heal and restore light and life.

We need His truth so that we understand and know His will and live obediently in it.

We need Him to do so daily. Wisdom, grace, and truth is needed in new supply every day. Like manna in the wilderness, we cannot live on yesterday’s supply.

It is still my prayer. I pray it is yours too.
