One Day More…

Tomorrow Anna comes home, and right in time to enjoy February break. I am sure she is looking forward to coming home more than I am…and that would be a lot! We have been preparing for her return. I will be doing some shopping today, making sure I have Anna’s favorite foods back in the house. Her room is clean and her bed is made. Mandi and I are each taking the day off. We are ready and waiting!

Thinking about this this afternoon, I saw the spiritual parallel: just as we are confident in the hope that Anna will be coming home tomorrow, Jesus will just as surely be returning one day, or come to take us home. Anna’s return is not a “she might come home tomorrow” kind of hope. It is certain. It is set. It is going to happen….whether we are ready for her or not. Our hope in Jesus’ return is of the same kind of hope. It is certain (Hebrews 11:1). He will come….whether we are ready for His return or not.

If it is worth the effort (and it is) to do the work to make preparations for Anna’s return, how much more so should we be preparing for Christ’s return? If I am willing to plan, work, spend, and prepare for her, how much more should I be willing to do the same for Him?

Waiting is not always easy, nor is it always pleasant. Today I broke down and wept for her, I was not able to make it through our worship service. After letting it out and praying, I went through all the comments that people have left since all this started that I had not yet replied to…which was just about all of them. You have no idea how grateful our family is for your thoughts and prayers. Your prayers have not fallen on deaf ears; God has graciously and compassionately carried us through each day we have been traveling this valley.
