My Identity as a Father in the Home and a Father in the Church

It is important to be aware of the connection that our self-identity has with the different roles we have. Our self-identity defines the roles we play in life; it determines in what capacity we can relate, serve, and work with one another.
Knowing who we are, knowing our identity in Christ, is crucial to both our happiness and effectiveness. It is crucial to our happiness in that we are the happiest when we are honestly and openly living out who we know we are. It is crucial to our effectiveness because when our identity is being lived out in our work we are doing what God designed and created us to do.
I understand that God has made fatherhood part of my identity. Because of that, fatherhood is part of who I am at the core. Therefore, I believe that a great part of understanding my capacity, who God wants me to be, how He wants me to relate, and how He wants me to work, will involve my identity as a father in the three principle works that God has given me to do:
1. To be a father to my three girls Maggie, Anna, and Rachel.
2. To be a spiritual father in the family of God as a discipler of men and women.
3. To be a spiritual father in the family of God as a minister in His Church.
